Though it was launched in 1961 at the Geneva Motor Show, sixty years later, the E-Type still defines the Jaguar brand. The E-Type was introduced as a rear-wheel drive grand tourer in two-seater coupé form and as a two-seater convertible “roadster”. A 2+2 version of the fastback coupé was added in 1966. The 2+2 offered the option of an automatic transmission. The body is 9 in (229 mm) longer and the roof angles are different.
This 1966 Jaguar XKE is a Series I 2+2 coupe that was initially sold in California and imported to British Columbia in 1969, and it underwent a cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment following the owner’s acquisition in 2002. Refurbishment work in 2012 included body repairs, a repaint in Opalescent Silver Blue, an interior re-trim in blue leather, and an overhaul of the 4.2-liter inline-six and the three-speed automatic transmission. Additional details include a replacement rear differential with 3.54:1 gearing as well as 15” Dayton wire wheels, Wilwood front calipers and rotors, Gaz shocks, triple SU carburetors, a Webasto fabric sunroof, a heater, and a Le Chaperon AM push-button radio. This XKE 2+2 is now offered on dealer consignment in Canada with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, service records, manufacturer’s literature, a tool kit, and British Columbia registration.
