Ford’s new Mustang looked like nothing ever seen before when it burst onto the scene in April 1964. More than 417,000 were sold within a year, a new Detroit record. Bucket seats and a floor shifter were standard, and either six-cylinder or 289-cid V-8 power was available under that long hood. Ford’s K-code High Performance 289, rated at 271 horsepower, remained the hottest optional engine up through 1966. The mustang was an cult hit, with now over 10 million being sold worldwide over seven generations.
This 1966 Ford Mustang convertible was purchased by the current owner in the 1980s, from the original owner. The car is powered by a 289ci V8 with Cobra-branded valve covers, and power is routed through a three-speed automatic transmission. It rides on 14″ styled steel wheels with white-stripe tires that are mounted over four-wheel drum brakes, and further equipment consists of Dynomax mufflers, chrome bumpers, and a black boot cover. The exterior is finished in Ivy Green Metallic with a black soft top, while the cabin is outfitted with Parchment pony-style upholstery as well as woodgrain trim, Rally-Pac instrumentation, and a center console.
